Husband and wife team Murray and Joann Kahrnoff have been working as a successful duo for over twenty years now. It’s truly an accomplishment when a married couple can tackle life’s battles at home and in the work place. The couple moved to Fremont, California in 1982 when Detroit went into a recession. Murray began General Cleaning Co. and slowly he added new services and more locations as the company grew larger. As the business grew Joann took over as office manager in 1985 and the business quickly became popular because of their knowledge and excellent customer service.
After Joann took over the office vans were added, the cleaning division was working 22 hours a day, and this well oiled machine was not only bringing in money but building an excellent reputation for themselves in California. In 1992, General Cleaning Co. became the first Certified ValueStar rated company in the entire United States. When the survey was conducted the company had an outstanding 98% customer satisfaction rating. In 2001, Murray was offered to teach in the cleaning industry as well as consulting hospitals on cleaning techniques and equipment. The business was on hold for a few years while Murray explored this side of the industry but it didn’t take long until Murray found himself back to his own business again because he had missed the returning clients and energy that came with the cleaning industry. The response in the Bay Area was amazing and they quickly were up and running again in a matter of no time.
Murray and Joann are a great power couple that have the business dialed in and leaders in their industry. This is why this power duo is Spotlight Cleaners of the week ! Murray has won the Carpet and Fabric Care Institute’s Bill Bailey Award. Joann has won The Jackie Maplesden Award not once but twice for being the most supportive spouse. This couple has made amazing progress in their business and continues to set an amazing example for other cleaning companies. Congrats !
