Is Google Lying To You? How To Check On Your Rankings!

Summer is upon us and it’s time to get those carpets cleaned from that muddy winter season. If you are in an area that doesn’t get snow and coldness well – keep it to yourself. Us Montana folk suffered a horrific winter. We’re glad to see the sun again and tan our very white skin.

A common thing I talk with cleaners about is, “How to Check On Your Rankings?” You’d think it’s simple and that you can just pop open your browser and search, however that’s not the correct way. Your browser stores a lot of information and we’re living in an age where our computers actually remember what we like and where we go on the Internet. It’s a conflicting evil beast of espionage and voyeurism, however if you are a small business ranking on the search engines and being on the Internet is essential.   Joe made a short video on how to find your rankings the correct way. Below I will also put instructions as well.

However, we don’t want to be releasing a stress overload on you.   I will give you Three Viewpoints/Advice so that you won’t start ripping your hair out thanks to the Google world.

  1. DO NOT check your ranking every day! Check it once a week. I check all of our SEO Clients Rankings every Monday. This helps me see what’s going on and then I can have a game plan on what to do with the site. If you end up checking every day your head will explode.
  2. If your site is gradually climbing it could disappear for a day DO NOT freak out! I’ve seen this happen where the site all of a sudden moves up two pages and then lands on Page 2 – then Disappears for a day – then Suddenly it’s on Page One! There is no rhyme or reason for it but it happens. Once you get on that first page life will get more stable and less stressful – trust me!
  3. Don’t Screw It UP! We see a lot of people get on that first page and they either call wanting more links or they leave us and go with another guy and that guy ruins their rankings because they mess with the site too much and start doing too many bad links. Everything needs to be natural and not rushed. The most important thing is to have patience and do not get Greedy!

I hope this helps and always remember getting you ranked is very important to us and we’re as happy as you when it happens. We’ve been pleased to see a lot of our SEO clients are ranking great on the first page as well as their Yelp and Facebook Pages are ranking as well. We love seeing that and we hope your phones are ringing!

The Secret To Getting Online Reviews & Testimonials

Hey guys, this is Joe Burnich from Big West Marketing and CarpetCleaningWebsites.net. Thanks for checking this video.

What I want to talk about today is getting online customer reviews and testimonials. This is a big deal because as carpet cleaners or rug cleaners we are coming into people’s private homes and are handling their valuables. I think sometimes we get busy and forget how really personal this business is.

So that means Trust is a HUGE factor when it comes to selling your services and if people are finding you online or even in a print ad they want to know more about you and why they should choose you. There is no better way to do this than give them real honest testimonials and reviews.

Step1 – decide where to get the reviews. Now there are several places clients can go to get and leave reviews. The three big ones are Google Plus, Yelp and Angie’s List. They all three have there own set of problems: maybe Google Plus deletes or drop reviews, maybe Yelp hides reviews unless you pay them money, Or maybe Yelp or Anigie’s list isn’t well known in your area. So I can’t tell you exactly where to go to get reviews, but at the very least you can place some quality reviews or testimonies directly on your website. They may not hold as much weight, but I promise they are better than nothing.

Step 2 – OK, so once you decide on where to get reviews. Now we need to talk about HOW to get them. Most of the time people will NOT do it on there own. They need to be told what to do. This is going to take a little work on your end, but if you incorporate it into your work day its a snap. Here is what you do. Make some simple flyers or postcards (hold one in your hand) that tell customers that the best way to say Thanks is to leave a review online. Tell them it is important to help local businesses and local economy thrive. Then tell them exactly where to go to do this. It’s easiest to have links from the Home page of your website to the online directory. Or have a Testimonials page on your website that easily allows them to submit comments. I’m going to put a sample card below this video that you modify and use in your own business. Give these out to every time you finish a cleaning (or least the ones that are happy with your work)

Another simple method is to use email. So when your setting up the appointment you can ask which email they would like to us to send a list of things they can do to prepare for the cleaning. Most people will love this and offer their email up no problem. Once again Don’t ask if you can their email – Ask which email. I will put the preparation list I use for my business below this video as well. OK, now you have their email and you complete the job, give them a post card. Now simply send them an email with the Subject: “How did we do?” In this email include the same information from the postcard, but this time have links that go directly to the review sites or the Review page on your website.

So these are my methods for getting online reviews. There are other ways to do it. I have a friend in California that will actually have his client’s sit and down and write reviews for his business while his tech is cleaning. He will even coach them on what to say. Sounds a little aggressive, but this guy does awesome work and has over 100 positive Yelp review. I would love to hear if anyone else has a method they would like to share. If so just leave comments below.

Thanks guys I hope this helps. Remember if you need a website or SEO services don’t hesitate to call our office at 406-493-1881.

Help! My Google Places Page Disappeared! (And Other Related Problems)

My Google Places Page DisappearedHaving Google Places issues? Did your page disappear? Did they suddenly suspend your account for no reason? Reviews disappearing? First, don’t panic, you probably didn’t do anything wrong. Anything that is happening now can probably be fixed.

Understand that this is a HUGE (and fairly new) software program that has to account for and manage every small business in the developing world. It is built by software and run by computers. So if it’s run by computers there are going to be glitches and bugs.

I’ve experienced it many times on my own account. Most of my clients have called me at one time or another freaking out about one problem or another. And it’s understandable many of our businesses are dependent on Google. They can make or break a good company. It’s not fair, but right now that’s just the way it is.

Here is the advice I give to my clients:

Step 1: try to log into your Places account. If you can log in and make changes then you should be ok, move on to Steps 2 and 3. If not, you will have to skip to the last step.

Step 2: Have you made any changes to your account that could be considered spammy? This includes keyword stuffing or adding fake Places accounts to rank in other cities. If so, change it back or delete the fake accounts. Give it a few days and check it again.

Step 3: If you are under suspension, try deleting everything except the business name, address and phone. Wait a few days and if it works, add the extra stuff back one at a time and if it breaks on something, leave it off. This is a long tedious process, but it may be necessary especially if Google’s software is red-flagging text, pics or videos.

Step 4: Get on the Google Places Forum, see if you are experiencing a known issue. Most people don’t know that you can actually contact Google and get a response (slowly) from a live human, but first you have to go through the trouble shooting steps: http://support.google.com/places/?hl=en

Step 5: This is taken from an email one of my client’s received from Google: If you’re confident that your business fits within our guidelines, then search for your business at mapmaker.google.com and see if it has been marked as removed. If you’re able to find it, attempt to undo the removal and reinstate your listing on Maps. It may take a couple of days for your reinstatement to be processed.

If you’re unable to reinstate your page this way, then please remove your listing from your Google Places dashboard by clicking “Delete” then “Remove my listing from my Google Places account,” then recreate the listing. You will need to undergo PIN verification again if that was your original verification process, but doing so may cause your listing to surface cleanly on Maps once you input your new PIN.

UPDATE: It turns out you can now speak with the Google Adwords Express team about your Places listing. If you have Google Adwords Express you will find a phone number in the help section of your account.

Comment from Reader

“Maybe this will help everyone also. I talk. To Google all the time. If you have a business account and are a paying customer you can contact them about any issues from mail to places etc.. associated with your Google business account.

Hope this helps…”

Cleaner’s Spotlight: Doll Bros.It always amazes me when a company celebrates a huge milestone like Doll Bros in Largo, Florida is with their 50th anniversary of being in business. Doll Bros. was established in 1964 by Don’s parents Richard and Shirley Doll. This family has tried and done everything out there and they are now using a method they call Deep Digger Carpet Dry Cleaning.
